Designed a hand-held experience for first-time website builders
ADI Assistant was one of the most central experiences in Wix ADI website builder. Its goal was to assist our users through their building process, teaching about the builder, help taking action, and suggest steps users should take, based on their latest actions.
Teamed with a dedicated PM, this was almost entirely "our" feature. My focus was the UX/UI, and I was highly involved in the technical and logic aspects as well.
Hand-held experience
The assistant started as a basic service - just providing a linear list of "tours". It helps the user in the initial building process, teaches how to use the builder in a gradual way, with guided tours on the user's actual site. Users can take tours over and over until the site is finished.
Usability tests showed these flows were pretty sticky. Users do use it to get things done, and we saw that users that complete tours for certain features engage more with these features also without the assistant help - which suggests they are learning from it.
Contextual, Smarter Experience
Although it was OK, it wasn't good enough. We knew that the site-building process is not really linear, and can't be predicted in one deterministic flow. Therefore we needed a smarter solution, something more flexible that will fit different ways of work.
So, the second way the Assistant helping our users is by suggesting smart tips - tips that are contextual to the specific site, helping to make it more complete - content-wise and design-wise.
The first smart tips helped our users to deal with the most common issues their websites have, like buttons that were added but left unlinked, social accounts that left connected to Wix default links, and more. Each card directs the users to the actions they should take in the builder.
Since rolling out the feature, we did see a decrease in sites that have those issues, and we planned to keep adding more, smarter capabilities that will be able to handle smart design decisions.
The future
Once established the fact that the assistant can work, we planned to find more smart, accurate and personalized ways to assist our users, and lead them to routes that will help them to get faster into publishing a complete site.
